Last Leisurefest for industry boss

Caravan Industry Victoria CEO Rob Lucas steps down after 11 years in the hot seat

After 11 years in the top job, Rob Lucas is stepping down as the CEO of Caravan Industry Victoria, and will be replaced by the association's General Manager Operations, Daniel Sahlberg.

CIV president Nat Schiavello said Lucas had built a strong foundation on which the new CEO would build further for the post-Covid era.

“Since Rob commenced as our CEO in 2011, he has brought the association decisively into the 21st century," he said.

“In 2012 he led the development of the Victorian Caravan Industry Blueprint, a 10-year strategic plan that set the course of the Association in the decade since.

“In the subsequent decade he has turned the blueprint into today’s reality, including a succession plan to take the association into the next decade.”

During his 11 year tenure, Lucas was behind a number of Australian RV industry firsts, including the launch of a RV Master Manufacturer program designed to raise industry standards as well as reduce the number of 'lemon caravan' complaints.

Daniel Sahlberg kicked off his caravanning career in his teens and held the position of Product Development and Drafting Manager at Windsor Caravans, before going on to to be a principal author of the RVMAP accreditation program.

He joined the CIV in 2015 as Industry Development Manager, and has worked alongside Lucas on a number of initiatives including the RV Service Safe accreditation program for caravan repairers, and the 2020 Virtual Caravan Show which was held in the midst of Melbourne's many Covid-related lockdowns.

“Rob personally recruited Daniel and has mentored him to take over the CEO role, so the reins are passing from one pair of safe hands to another,” Schiavello said.

Celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2022, Caravan Industry Victoria represents more than 240 caravan manufacturers, retailers and repairers in Victoria, and runs four annual shows including the Victorian Caravan Supershow, Melbourne and Bendigo Leisurefests and the Border Caravan & Camping Expo.
