Last hurrah for popular Isuzu tow tug
MU-X Onyx edition adds pizzazz to ageing 3000kg tow rated SUVIsuzu UTE Australia has released a special-edition version of the its popular 3000kg tow rated Isuzu MU-X, which is likely to be the final update to the seven-seat off-road SUV before it’s replaced by an all-new model next year.
The Isuzu MU-X Onyx edition sports a more upmarket look and feel thanks to a more athletic front-end design and numerous blacked-out styling cues.
It's priced at $56,990 drive-away – just $590 more than the list price of the range-topping Isuzu MU-X LS-T ($56,400 plus on-road costs) on which it’s based.
Limited to 420 units, the Isuzu MU-X Onyx edition also adds a premium interior fit-out headlined by quilted leather-accented trim and a six-way power-operated driver’s seat, plus additional features including automatic headlights, body-coloured wing mirrors, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, digital radio and sat-nav.
On the outside, the Onyx gets a shadow chrome grille and rear-end treatment, plus a new chin spoiler and gloss black side-steps to create a dark look. The larger seven-seat SUV is offered in just two colours – Obsidian Grey mica or Silky White pearl.
Otherwise, the Isuzu MU-X Onyx edition gets the same kit as its LS-T donor vehicle, including keyless entry/start, a 6.8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, roof-mounted 10-inch DVD screen and rear-seat entertainment system, eight-speaker audio, air-conditioning vents for all rows plus loads of ancillary ports.

The Isuzu MU-X Onyx edition continues to be powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine offering 130kW/430Nm – a bit down on the latest Isuzu D-MAX ute.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and with a dual-range 4x4 Terrain Command system., 230mm of ground clearance and underpinnings from the (previous-gen) Isuzu D-MAX, the MU-X is a genuine 4x4 off-roader.
Like all Isuzu M-UXs, the Onyx is covered by a six-year, 150,000km factory warranty, up to seven years of roadside assistance and a seven-year capped price servicing program.
