Launched two years ago, the Ballina, NSW-built Kimberley Kruiser is unlike any caravan in the world.
But now the latest ‘T3’ version of the Kimberley Group’s range-topping off-road caravan, along with its cheaper Kamper hard-floor model, have been snapped up by a buyer in Abu Dhabi, who it appears was particularly taken with Kimberley’s enviro-friendly water-less toilet – no surprise, given the scarcity of water in that part of the world.
Speaking to a local newspaper after a factory visit from a local MP, Kimberley boss Bruce Luxton said “the Abu Dhabi buyer had Googled water-saving features in his search for an off-road camper and caravan”.
The Kamper Platinum edition comes with a waterless, chemical-free, “compostable’ toilet, that uses a constantly-running 12V fan to help speed up the composting process and eliminate odours.
The Eco Waterless Toilet is a $1990 option on all Kimberley Kampers, from January 2015 (see the video below to see how it works).
To sweeten the Abu Dhabi deal, worth around $250,000, Kimberley threw in a stylish stainless steel and melamine dinner set, valued at $80 per place setting (pictured).
The Kruiser and Kamper are loaded with other unique features designed to appeal to those camping in extremely hot climates like Abu Dhabi, such as aircraft-grade insulation, a hard-skin tropical roof, a desalination unit, and lightweight solar panels and lithium batteries that work with generators to run the air-conditioner.
Kimberley, which has been in business almost 20 years and employs 100 staff, has exported its cutting-edge campers and off-road caravans to a number of countries including the UK, USA, and Canada.
