Kimberley delivers family Kruiser
NSW off-road specialist loads single-axle Kruiser van with more beds while reducing weightNSW’s Kimberley Kampers has raised the bar again in the off-road caravan market, with a new and improved version of its fibreglass, single-axle Kruiser caravan.
Kimberley boss Bruce Lozton said the design brief for the 2017 E-Class Kruiser was to deliver a 6m off-road, fibreglass caravan with full ensuite and sleeping for six, as well as extend the free camping capabilities of the aerodynamic original.
Borrowing a model name from another industry leader, Mercedes-Benz, the new single axle E-Class Kruiser is available in three variants -- E 150, E 280 and E 550 – which refer to the solar capacity on the roof.
Priced from $75,000, the entry-level E 150 Kruiser is the lightest of the lot, with a Tare weight of around 1750kg, with the ATM ranging from 1950kg to 2498kg, depending on model and options fitted.
The Prado-friendly E 280 model is designed for tow vehicles with a 250kg ball weight and 2500kg towing capacity.
A redesigned interior, which has created a front east-west queen bed with overhead double bed for the kids, along with some weight stripping has helped reduce the Tare weight, while the suede-covered lounge can also be converted to bunk beds.
Other design features include a ‘Razorback’ ceiling with recessed LED strip light running down the centre, pull-down reflector blinds, Corian-style benchtops, lightweight fibreglass pedestal table and ‘gas-free’ appliances in the form of a diesel-powered ceramic cooker and hot water and air heater.
Also standard is a 133 litre internal fridge and microwave, while the rear ensuite has a washing machine and optional waterless toilet, with run-off from the shower collected in a 65 litre tank to use in the washing machine.
Buyers also now have the option of wrapping the fibreglass exterior in a personalised vinyl wrap.
The sophisticated electrical system includes exclusive 3D-folded rooftop solar panels, 2000W pure sine invertor, inverter and 300Ah battery system, while the advanced multi-media system includes a 24in TV/DVD and optional Foxtel-compatible satellite system.
Roof-top air-conditioning and four powered roof hatches help to maximise airflow.
Outside, an external compartment contains a slide-out 30 litre fridge, BBQ and optional sink or external speakers, and like most Kimberly caravans underpinnings extend to independent air suspension and power-assisted disc brakes with the option of an anti-sway bar.
