Kelly Campers heads downmarket

New, Australian-built lightweight off-road camper trailer from around $30,000
Brisbane’s Kelly Campers has released a new, entry-level camper trailer, at close to half the price of its original Glenrowan hybrid model.
Unveiled at last month’s Gold Coast Caravan & Camping Expo, the new Kelly XC-1 camper is in the style of other lightweight, Australian-built bare-boned, hardcore off-road trailers like Patriot’s X2, and with what looks like similar attention to custom design and build quality.
Featuring orange powdercoated aluminium framework and a Supagal chassis, the XC-1 is designed for serious off-roading with Cruisemaster XT coil suspension and Arc jockey wheel and off-road hitch fitted as standard.
The standard package also includes a custom-built, slide-out stainless steel kitchen with drawer, sink and tap, and a flip-down shelf for a BBQ that hooks up to a gas bayonet plumbed to a 4kg gas bottle.
Also standard is an 80 litre water tank, 105Ah battery and Redarc battery management system, fridge slide-out, fold-down work bench, and large pantry and storage lockers.
The 300kg-rated, checkerplate-covered roof has built-in beams with tie-down points for carrying swags and tents, or there's space for a roof-top tent or boat loader.
"It's designed for people with families and people who work - it's perfect for weekend getaways,” explained Kelly Camper’s Dave Willoughby. "Wherever you want to explore, it will be behind you the whole way.”
Pricing for the Kelly XC-1 starts at just under $30,000, but you'll have to pay extra for options including a mesh stone-guard, Eva Kool 74 litre fridge, Weber BBQ, Alu-Cab rooftop tent, Supa-Peg 270 degree awning, Fusion Stereoactive audio unit, and Korr folding solar blanket.
“We are committed to utilising the best Australian made components available," Willoughby said. "While this may increase the price, it does ensure that the camper we build for you is of the highest quality and will last a lifetime."
