After rolling out four of its ground-breaking ADR-approved, six-tonne rated triple axle caravans over the past six years, Queensland's Kedron Caravans is now building its first 6000kg ATM rated, air-braked tandem axle off-road caravan for a customer.
"After years of developments, (we've) had confirmation of a successful VTA (vehicle type approval) yesterday for the release of our new six tonne ATM rated air-braked tandem axle TE’6 TopEnder," Kedron’s Glen Gall told caravancampingsales.
Like the mind-blowing triple axle six tonne 'van, the design-registered truck air brake system on Kedron's new top-spec 24ft TE’6 caravan is believed to be a first for an Australian off-road recreational caravan.
"With the increased payload, we looked to then also match this with increased capacities in solar, lithium battery and water storage," he said.
Kedron has added another of its design-registered, powered ’solar wings’ on the 24ft TE'6 'van; making three slide-out solar wings and 2880W rooftop solar in total, plus an additional Avolta portable 440W panel.
"This significantly boosts input into the new upgraded battery storage for extended use of inverter driven air-conditioning, induction cooking, additional refrigeration, lighting, TVs and integrated entertainment systems," Glen explained.
The power bank supplied by Brisbane's Custom Lithium includes two 'Ultra Slim’ 1250Ah alloy-encased lithium batteries, while Kedron says it worked with another Australian family business to develop the 1000L water storage capacity that includes chassis-mounted, stainless steel wrapped, food grade rotomoulded tanks with a quad, UV-light filtration system.
The first tandem-axle 24ft TE'6 is currently in the QC section of Kedron's Brisbane factory, and will be picked up by its interstate owners in coming months.
Also on the Kedron production line are two more air-braked tandem TE'6 'vans for customers, both with a rear side door layout.
Glen said the new tandem axle variants allow for a slightly shorter 24ft or 25ft floorplan, compared to the longer 26ft body length of the triple axle TE'7.
"They do both have their benefits; tandem is a little shorter for storage, and say maneuverability, while the triple offers some additional length and space if desired," he explained.
With its top-spec standard inclusions, the new six tonne ATM rated, air-braked tandem-axle 24ft TE’6 TopEnder is priced from $299,990.
