Johnno’s releases black X-series camper

Blacked out, coil sprung, soft-floor camper joins Johnno’s off-road X-series range

Johnno’s Campers has introduced a new range-topping, soft-floor camper featuring coil-spring independent suspension and 'walk-up' rear bed access.

The JCT-X-R15 is the second model in Johnno’s new X-Series range, following the hybrid hard-floor camper, the JCT-X-C15 (formerly X-Calibur).

Based on the off-road Evolution, the JCT-X-R15 features an independent coil spring/shocks suspension in lieu of the Evolution's leaf spring set-up. And instead of climbing up a side ladder to get to the queen-sized bed, a 500mm 'walk-up' section has been added to provide more convenient, rear end access.

"We've taken away the wood and chainsaw box (behind the front toolbox on the Evolution) and basically used that area instead for a walk-up area inside the tent," explained Johnno's Australia boss Lesley McGown.

The new, soft-floor range-topper is also distinguished by a black powdercoat body, black tent cover, black instead of the usual orange MaxTrax recovery gear, black painted alloy wheels with 32 x 11.5 Mud Terrain tyres, and 12in electric brakes.

It also features around 30mm more road clearance than the already jacked-up Evolution.

"We've made it more tougher and manly, to cater to the egos," McGown said.

Other Evolution-like features of the 1100kg (Tare) JCT-X-R15 include two, 60 litre underbody water tanks with bash plates, Hyland coupling, portable hot water system, slide-out stainless steel kitchen with wok and BBQ, 4.5kg gas bottle, two 75Ah deep cycle batteries, LED lighting and awning.

The canvas-covered living area is slightly larger than the Evolution’s, at 2.7 x 2.7m.

At $28,990 plus on-road costs, it’s priced $3000 more than the
Evolution. But as an introductory offer buyers can choose from two bonus
packages: a wired and fitted Redarc battery management system and queen
size innerspring mattress, or matching annexe walls and CGear matting.

Like all Johnno’s Campers, the new JCT-X-R15 is manufactured at the Cub Campers’ factory in Sydney, using a Duragal steel chassis, Zincaneal pressed steel body sides, and Wax Converters Dynaproofed canvas.
