An estimated 2350 tow bars that have been locally fitted on WK Jeep Grand Cherokee models are being recalled voluntarily due to safety concerns.
Fiat Chrysler Australia has discovered that the tow bars may lose torque during towing, which may result in the tow bar and trailer (if towing) becoming detached from the vehicle.
The affected tow bar kits were sold after 31 May 2017; and FCA says no other Jeep models or tow bars are affected.
The company also says that it’s unaware of any injuries or accidents related to this recall, which is limited to vehicles fitted with the specific tow bars.
Affected customers are advised to stop using the tow bar immediately, or to determine if their tow bar is affected by the recall, customers can phone 1300 133 079 or contact an authorised Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealer.
Any repairs required will be provided free of charge.
