Fresh from a major upgrade of its production facilities, fast-growing Melbourne caravan builder JB has revamped its website including adding interactive features such as a ‘caravan builder’ configurator.
Similar to DIY colour and option configurators found on many car manufacturer websites, the new ‘caravan builder’ feature allows potential JB caravan buyers to decide on interior and exterior colour combinations for their next caravan from the multiple choices on offer, before ever setting foot in a dealer.
The four-step online process includes choosing from one of nine touring, semi-off-road and off-road models available in the JB Caravans range.

Users can then select from as many as six exterior colours, depending on model, for the front and rear panels, side panels and checker plate sections of the van. With the changes displayed on a computer-generated image, users scroll through countless combinations until they find one they’re happy with.
They then proceed to the interior colour selector, where up to 70 colour and pattern choices are available for interior benchtops, cubboards, splashbacks, floor coverings and upholstery on the dinette/lounge.
The final step is to get a detailed ‘summary’ of the finished product, which includes computer renderings of the front and rear exterior and interior look. This could then be retained on a smart phone, or possibly printed out and presented to the dealer before ordering.
Also part of the online interactive experience on the new website is a ‘virtual reality room', where potential customers experience a realistic 3D walk-through of an interior layout, after downloading a special 'app' that's designed to run on most PCs and laptops.
