With a growing number of young Australians now calling their apartment ‘home’ and many working from it, Jayco has responded by adding a new side entry-door, rear kitchen and easy to store at home ‘X’ model to its expanding JPod camper range.
Designed to be stored in an underground car parking space, the single-axle JPod X that was also the major 'door' prize at this year's Queensland Supershow, is ideal for spontaneous weekend getaways by singles or couples.
The JPod X’s hail and dent-resistant sandwich panel fibreglass walls should make it well-suited to adventurous weekends, while with a double-size mattress bed inside, plenty of clothes storage space on the inner walls and under the bed, and an external two-burner gas cooktop and sink that's standard on Outback and optional on Sport models, it's well-equipped for the task.
Two models are available – the Sport, or Outback, the latter with more ground clearance thanks to its uprated J-Tech 2.0 independent coil spring suspension.
The ‘X’s ‘killer’ feature is its low tare weight from 756kg (Sport) and 904kg (Outback), which means it can be towed by most average sedans or small SUVs, while its price (depending on options) is ‘young traveller-affordable’, starting at $29,490.
With its fixed roof, the JPod X is designed for supple young bodies and bedside lights and USB points cater for their interests.
A rooftop tent is optional, as is an A -frame mounted toolbox, but a 270-degree bat-wing awning is standard, as are alloy 15-inch wheels, an A-frame jerrycan holder, a 9kg gas bottle, an 80 litre fresh water tank, a 100AH battery with a built-in battery management system, a single Sirocco 12v cooling fan, 180 Watt rooftop solar panel and a portable 45-litre fridge-freezer.
