Two months after news of a 30 year production high for the Australian RV industry, Jayco has announced it also had a record-breaking year in 2010 with more than 9000 motorhomes, caravans, pop tops and camper trailers coming off the production lines at Jayco's Dandenong South, Victoria factory.
The figures represent a 27 per cent increase on the previous year, or 45 per cent of the Australian RV market, according to Jayco’s CEO, Neil Coulson.
"We’re really pleased with the momentum Jayco has achieved in 2010, and we plan to continue our growth into 2011 with a target of 10,000 sales," Coulson said.
"Last year we increased our manufacturing capacity by opening a new line to build our Starcraft models, one of our most popular units. At the moment, we have around 46 vans come off our lines each day," he said.
The Jayco figures reflect an overall revival of the RV industry, off the back of some lean years during the recent global financial crisis (GFC), with the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia reporting more than 21,000 RVs produced in 2010.
"We’re seeing more and more Australians deciding to purchase an RV and see more of their own backyard," he said. "This is also due to baby boomers coming back into the market after recovering from the GFC and seeing a bounce-back in their super funds. We’re also seeing plenty of young families enter the market for the first time."
Jayco increased sales in almost every region of Australia, Coulson said.
"All models tracked well, and we saw a marked increase in the sales of Sterling and Starcraft vans, which reflects our increased production abilities."
