Following the lead of RV technology innovators like Queensland’s Zone RV and Kedron, Jayco has fitted more ‘smart’ technology as standard to its latest 2019 model, Silverline caravan and Optimum motorhome.
Already available with the digital switching JHub touchscreen, Jayco has bundled up four additional ‘smart’ features, dubbed RVConnect, and added them to the standard equipment list on the latest versions of Jayco's top-spec caravan and motorhome (they're also available as options on cheaper Jayco models).
The RVConnect package includes a portable Echo device to run Amazon's Alexa virtual assistant technology, which allows voice-activated control of the RV’s LED lighting as well as other voice-control features.
Also included is a Carefree electric awning, which can be controlled via a smart phone app that allows programming of preset positions. The only catch is that the smartphone app will only work within normal Bluetooth range.

The RVConnect package also includes a full set of side-vision cameras, that deliver a ‘360 degree’ view for the driver, similar to that offered on cars from the likes of Subaru and Mercedes-Benz. According to Jayco, the new 360 degree camera view is a “world first in a production caravan” and will ensure there are “no blind spots when towing and parking”.
The final piece in the RVConnect package is a Winegard Wi-Fi extender. Similar to the RV Wi-Fi system available in Australia in recent years, Jayco says the roof-mounted Wingard unit will give buyers “better coverage allowing you to Skype and Facetime family and friends from anywhere".
The RVConnect package joins other new technology fitted to the big-selling Jayco luxury models in recent times, including lithium battery power and airbag suspension.
Other new features on the 2019 Silverline caravans include a modified Endurance galvanised chassis and J-TECH suspension that reduces weight by around 100kg, external slide-out kitchen and slide-out storage tub, Nautilus instant hot-water system, matte-black tapware and subway tile splashback.
Despite the new features, the 2019 Silverline vans remain competitively priced, with the entry-level 19ft slide-out touring model priced from $76,990, while the equivalent ‘Outback’ version starts at $82,490.
