Jayco pumps up Silverline

Top-spec Jayco touring van gets airbag option as well as tougher chassis
There’s a battle for your heart and ride going on underneath your next caravan, with the latest ‘mobile strikes’ being fired by Vehicle Components along with Jayco.
Jayco has raised the bar on its in-house developed JTech trailing arm and coil spring independent suspension by debuting a new twin Pedder shock absorber version of its system launched in 2014.
The uprated JTech will initially be fitted as standard on its

new off-road Adventurer series of single and tandem axle caravans recently displayed at Adelaide and Melbourne caravan shows.

Jayco additionally announced a new air suspension version of JTech employing Airbag Man inflatable rubber springs that will initially be offered as a $4500 option on

range-topping Silverline models, in company with an extensively revised chassis.

“We have been working on an airbag suspension for some time now, but we wanted to make sure it was right and it would integrate with our current JTech (independent suspension),” Jayco’s Regional Sales Manager Scott Jones said.
“This is available for Silverline Touring only, so what it’s going to give you is the ability to get to Outback height if you need to get more ground clearance, or drop it down to the bump stops to get it into your garage. The other clear benefit is the ride quality with the airbags.”
The system doesn’t have an automatic ‘self-levelling’ feature

like some others, and is only available at the moment on the top-spec Silverline. But don’t be surprised if you see it appear on the option list of other Jayco models later this year, including Adventurer, as Jayco likes to optimise its development costs across as many models as possible.

The airbag was displayed on a newly designed galvanised chassis that underpins all 2017 Silverline models, featuring longitudinal rather than traditional steel cross-members.
“The longitudinal members provide more floor strength and gives us a bit more flexibility in placement of components underneath,” Jones said.
He also hinted other

hi-tech options are currently being considered for future introduction by Jayco, including lithium battery systems.
