Jayco has played it safe by adopting a familiar name in the Australian RV market for its toughest off-road model to date.
Australia’s largest RV manufacturer unveiled a
new 19ft, tandem axle pre-production model at last month’s Melbourne Leisurefest, before asking the public for ideas on what it should be called in a ‘Name this van’ competition.
Of hundreds of suggestions received, some of the more interesting included Black Stump, Oasis, Stingray, Dreamcatcher, Redback, Wedgetail, Tornado, Dirt Buster, Extreme, Stealth, Beast and Nomad.
Other less serious proposals were Jaycoasauris,  Vantasy, Itchy Foot, Caravany McCaravan Face, Bonnie Doon (How's the serenity) and "Wheredafarkarewee".
Matt Lawford won the major prize of a $500 Jayco merchandise pack, with $100 vouchers awarded as runner-up prizes to a number of other people who also suggested the Adventurer name.
However, not all were thrilled at the decision, with negative comments on
Jayco’s Facebook site ranging from “Not a very adventurous name” to “That’s original”.
Adventurer is already used as a model name by a number of Australia caravan manufacturers, including
Roadstar and Paramount. Adventurer caravans were also built in South Australia as far back as the 1950s, and the brand name is still being used today by an Adelaide-based business.
Production versions of the new Jayco Adventurer are expected to go on sale in early-2017.
