Jayco has added a new entry-level single axle model to its 50th Anniversary Discovery hardtop range.
Priced from $69,990 in touring spec and $74,990 with the more off-road friendly Outback pack, the new 17ft Discovery twin-berth caravan is aimed at couples who want all the features of the Discovery range but in a lighter, cheaper and easier to tow package.
The new 17ft 'van has a Tare mass of approximately 1928kg with the Outback pack, and an ATM of 2528kg.
The layout includes the desirable north-south walkaround queen bed, with a central kitchen and dinette and full width ensuite with separate shower and toilet.
However, instead of some cafe dinette seating in the 19ft model, the new 17 footer gets a slightly less convenient bench seat arrangement with adjustable table.
Jayco dealer Brisbane Camperland displayed a new Discovery Outback 17.54-1 at the Queensland Caravan Supershow, fitted with optional slide-out storage tub and optional leatherette upholstery, and advertised with a 'show special' tow-away price of $74,750.
The new 17ft single axle dirt-road caravan features an extended A-frame for fitting an optional toolbox or bike rack, together with a hot dipped galvanised chassis with independent coil suspension and composite body construction.
Black 16in wheels with 245/70RI6 AT tyres and a 50mm ball coupling are also standard, with a Cruisemaster DO-35 off-road coupling available as an option.
Other standard external features include dual 9kg gas bottles, a gas bayonet, powered awning, picnic table, wireless reverse camera, and electronic stability control.
While standard features inside include a pillowtop innerspring mattress, USB-A/USB-C powerpoints, 27in LED TV and sound bar, microwave, four-burner cooktop, grille and oven, a 224L compressor fridge/freezer, audio system, 3.3kg top-load washing machine, water filter, roof-mounted air conditioner and a 100Ah lithium battery with 200W rooftop solar.
