We've seen all sorts of extravagant items from beer keg dispensers to spa baths installed in Australian-built touring caravans over the years, but this has to be the ultimate option for caravanning coffee snobs...
A Melbourne-built luxury touring caravan has been fitted out with a top-shelf espresso machine set-up designed to deliver cafe-quality coffees on the go.
The custom designed Royal Flair Piazza Sky-Deck tandem-axle model was handed over to its Queensland owners in early-May before Toormina, NSW-based Artisti Coffee Roasters fitted out the close to commercial grade set-up in a special 'cafe' locker created at the front of the 'van.
The espresso equipment itself is worth around $9000, and includes a La Marzocco Linea Mini coffee machine, Anfim Best on demand grinder and Inoart PT2 Precision Tamp. It's all bolted in to prevent it moving around on bumpy roads, and there's a 400AH onboard lithium battery system to power the coffee machine and other caravan appliances including an induction cooktop and air-conditioner when not plugged in at a caravan park.
The Queensland owners are planning to run a mobile coffee business from the elevated front deck platform, under the business name Wisecup, while the rest of the caravan is set up for luxury living, with a kitchen, shower/toilet, and lounge/dinette with drop-down electric bed and an auto-raising TV at the base.
"Thinking of starting a food or coffee business, our customisable Piazza has got you covered," Royal Flair said on its Facebook page.
"This model purchased by the Toner family gives you the freedom to travel in comfort between events. The front sports a large flap with enough space to fit a sizable industrial coffee machine. The Skydeck is perfect for serving customers and with its looks this van is bound to draw a crowd..." the longstanding Melbourne caravan builder said.
Invented around 10 years ago, the innovative Sky Deck fold-out platform delivers a unique two square metre verandah at the front of the caravan when camping. It's available on Royal Flair's range-topping Piazza model and is aimed at those wanting more off-ground undercover space and room to move than a more conventional caravan layout.
Royal Flair is becoming known for its luxury custom builds, rolling out a very special off-grid 'van late last year for a full-time travelling family.
