Iridium Go

New portable gadget creates satellite hotspot for up to five WiFi-equipped devices anywhere in the world

Satellite phones are an increasingly important safety item for travellers in remote regions, allowing communication when outside of mobile phone range.

But now there’s the Iridium Go, a portable satellite hotspot device that lets up to five WiFi-equipped devices hop on the internet, send texts and make phone calls from just about anywhere in the world.

With rugged construction and a coverage radius of 30 metres, the nifty device is aimed at adventure travellers, remote workers and anyone who needs to keep in touch outside of regular phone coverage, whether on land, sea or air.

The Iridium Go ships with official Android and iOS apps, and also has an SOS mode that gets in touch with emergency services.

The new unit will be on display at the Satphone Shop stand at the National 4x4 Show in Melbourne (August 22-24) or visit the Satphone Shop website to take advantage of a special price of $1195.

The retailer is also offering attractive pre-paid bundles with the Iridium Go, including 400 minutes with seven months access for $1595 or 1000 minutes with 13 months access from $1895.
