Innovative IKamper X-Cover arriving soon

World’s first coverless side-fold roof-top tent coming to Australia in April

After making its world debut in Colorado in mid-2018, the first shipments of iKamper’s game-changing new X-Cover roof-top tent are expected to arrive in Australia in April.

Hard-lid roof-top tents are a popular choice for four-wheel-drivers, due to their design and ease of use. However, they typically offer smaller sleeping spaces than soft-cover rooftop tents, which fold out sideways to allow for a bigger mattress, but take much longer to open up and pack away.

However, Korean rooftop tent specialist IKamper has come up with a roof topper that offers the best of both worlds: a user-friendly hard shell design that folds out sideways, delivering a king size bed while doing away with the hassle of a PVC travel cover.

Dubbed the world’s first coverless side-fold roof-top tent, IKamper reckons the new X-Cover takes 2-3 minutes to erect: simply unzip the fabric around the sides, pull out the slide-out ladder attached to the roof, flipping open the base at the same time, before hopping into bed.

Another plus of the X-Cover is that you can carry items weighing up to 50kg on the roof, including surfboards, bikes, kayaks or snowboards. The unit comes equipped with two cross bars, which are compatible with a number of aftermarket accessories.

IKamper says the 6cm thick, 210cm x 190cm high density foam mattress is big enough to sleep up to four people (three adults, or two adults and two children).

Other highlights of the X-Cover include a ‘Skyview’ window in the roof for star gazing at night, and a polyester rain fly for extra protection.

Constructed from honeycomb aluminum and 300GSM poly-cotton canvas, the X-Cover weighs around 47kg. It measures 190cm x 115cm x 26cm when closed, and 230cm x 190cm x 110cm when open.

Optional accessories include an awning and annexe room, and IKamper claims the tent has been tested in winds up to 64km/h.

The iKamper Australia distributor is currently taking pre-order deposits for the X-Cover, at an early-bird price of $3770.
