Tired of all the hard yakka required to manually release or engage the parking brake on your caravan, every time you pull over or drive off?
Well, help is at hand, with a new Aussie invention hitting the market that promises to take the sweat and strain out of this unavoidable task, by providing power assistance to the caravan braking mechanism at the push of a button.
According to the team behind the new Handbrake Assist product, when fitted it "provides extra pulling power needed to engage the mechanical braking system on the towed vehicle.
"Unlike a standard manual handbrake system which requires a lot of force to engage and disengage, which may be difficult for some individuals, Handbrake Assist is controlled with a push of a button," it said on the website of Equipment Link RV which is helping bring the new product to market.
Handbrake Assist is the latest invention from South Australia-based RV Electronics which supplies a number of innovative products to the Australian RV industry including water tank monitors and breakaway systems.
Promising easy installation and powered by the 12V on-board battery, Handbrake Assist will be rolled out to caravan manufacturers and has already been fitted to a Melbourne-built Royal Flair caravan.
"With a single ON/OFF button, Handbrake Assist engages and disengages the mechanical handbrake, it also engages the manual lockout which creates ease of use along with maximum safety," the Melbourne-based outlet explained.
"Handbrake Assist attaches easily to the trailer chassis. It can also be mounted in various locations with the remote mounted ON/OFF button located next to the coupling."
HandBrake Assist is also compatible with most popular couplings fitted to Australian caravans including Cruisemaster's DO-35 and DO-45, AL-KO, McHitch, OzHitch, ARK and Lovells.
The first orders of the Australian-made HandBrake Assist are expected to be delivered in coming weeks. As far as pricing goes, it's currently advertised online for $795.
