A new, cut-price version of Horizon Motorhomes’ most popular campervan will make its debut at the Queensland Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow at the Brisbane Showgrounds from June 7-12.
The Melaleuca Appeal is based on the Ballina, NSW-based campervan conversion specialist’s most popular, Fiat-based Melaleuca model, with a number of less important standard features omitted to make it more affordable. These include the water filter, TV/DVD, some reading and awning lights, front table, rear overhead cupboard and an under-seat storage system that allows larger items like fishing rods to be carried.
As a result the Appeal starts from $102,500 (drive-away with manual transmission) – $10,000 less than the standard Melaleuca’s $112,500 starting price.
“In the last few years customers have been telling us that ‘less is more’ when they are looking for the right vehicle to get them started on the road,” Horizon Motorhomes’ Sales Team Leader John Armstrong said.
“They want functionality and clever design rather than ‘over the top’ excessiveness. There are so many benefits to having a compact motorhome like fuel economy, better back road access, camping spontaneity and sneaking-a-sleep in overnight parking.”
Like the two-berth Melaleuca, the Appeal camper comes with a well-equipped kitchen, combination shower/toilet and rear lounge/dinette that converts to single or double beds.
While missing out on some of the features of the Melaleuca, Horizons says the campervan is easily upgradeable if buyers’ requirements change.
“The ‘Appeal’ will have the capability to be upgraded at any time,” Horizon boss Clayton Kearney said. “If you decide in a few years that you really can’t live without your TV or filter water tap, or that you would like additional reading lights, it can all be easily done – the base set up includes all wiring and necessary outlets for all those little extra comforts”.
The Melaleuca Appeal is the first new model from Horizon in four years, and boosts the range of Fiat and Mercedes-Benz two- and four-wheel drive campervan range to nine models in total.
