Honda CR-V owners can now turn their vehicles into makeshift motorhomes, with the availability of a new, six-person tent that slots onto the back of the compact SUV wagon.
Joining the Honda CR-V accessories range, the new Camping Tent has two doors and an access point to the CR-V, extending usable space into the vehicle.
Available from Honda dealerships for RRP $548, it also has three mesh windows and an extendable rain fly for additional rain protection. Honda says it can also be used as a standalone tent.
The new accessory should further increase the popular soft-roader’s appeal to outdoor enthusiasts. Currently the fourth biggest-selling medium SUV in the country, the fourth-generation CR-V was launched in Australia in late-2012, with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, two petrol engines and manual and automatic transmissions.
The five-seat CR-V wagon currently has a maximum towing capacity of 1500kg, but the arrival of a new diesel auto model in early-2014 should boost its credentials as a tow tug. The 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine will produce 110kW/350Nm while maintaining very low (claimed) fuel economy of 5.8L/100km.
