Queensland boutique manufacturer Hitch Campers has significantly updated its Canning off-road box camper for 2026.
Based on customer feedback and local testing over the past five years, the MY26 Canning hardcore camper features a number of key improvements, including 33 per cent bigger side entry doors and 10 per cent more storage volume in the rear kitchen area.

Off-grid capacity has also been boosted with 230L freshwater tanks and a 230Ah lithium battery, 200W solar panel and Redarc RS3 2000W inverter now fitted as standard to the entry-level Canning S, along with Cruisemaster Level 2 XT airbag suspension, a DO-35 coupling and ARK XO750 jockey wheel.

Also new are twin awning lights, an LED-lit Bushwakka 270 degree awning, redesigned jerry can holder, a rear dust deflector, and aluminium 'carcass' framing for the cabinetry, while inside there's a new vinyl backed headboard to go with the queen mattress and storage.
All MY26 Canning variants also now come with a 69L MyCoolman fridge/freezer and an induction cooktop.

Despite the updates Hitch says the teardrop-inspired camper is 50kg lighter than before, with a Tare weight from 1050kg and 1600kg ATM, delivering a payload of up to 550kg.
"We challenge you to find a square drop camper that's optioned to this level and is built to go where (the Canning) can go, at these sort of weights..." Hitch Campers' director Luke Peers said in an online walk-through video of the top-spec Canning STR.
Like before, the MY26 Canning is built at Hitch's Gold Coast factory using a hot dipped galvanised chassis and fibreglass sandwich panels for the body. Pricing for the 5.19m long (overall), 2.2m wide and 2.05m high (minimum) pod camper starts at $74,990 for the entry-level Canning S.

The top-spec, $84,990 Canning STR (pictured) goes next level with standard gear including a 310Ah lithium battery, Redarc Alpha 50 and TVMS Rogue, twin Sirocco fans, Cruisemaster Level 3 airbags, a dual ensuite shower tent, slide-out table, grey water tank, internal roller blinds and a front toolbox, which also comes with a new ventilation system.
