Hidden gems at Great Outdoors Online Expo

Big discounts on stand-out sleepers during online caravan Expoeditorialbannerspons 1024x166 01 fc7q

Some of the best-known brands in the Australian RV industry are in 'sale mode' during the caravancampingsales' Great Outdoors Online Expo, which runs July 1-22.

There are show-special deals on more than 500 advertised Expo deals -- offering savings of many thousands of dollars in some cases --- with many from big-name brands like New Age, Royal Flair, Trailblazers, Coromal, Windsor, Concept, JB, Avida, Lotus, Paramount, Track Trailer and Cub.

But the Online Expo also features great deals from some lesser known brands that might otherwise fly under the radar, particularly when offered by dealers outside of the major capital cities. But  that doesn't mean you won't get the same big discounts on a brand-new or plate-clearance caravan, camper trailer or motorhome.

Here are some of the 'hidden gems' among the many Online Expo deals...

Cosy Cab Kirkston

cosycab

Being one of dozens of caravan manufacturers plying their trade in Melbourne's northern suburbs, Cosy Cab Caravans won't be on the radar of many caravan buyers. However, in operation for 10 years and with a few dealers around the country, they're still a good option for those looking for an affordable touring caravan -- just like this 19ft Cosy Cab Kirkston two-berth touring van from the Victorian dealer.

Boasting Expo specila pricing of $56,900 driveaway -- a saving of $3000 -- the sharply priced van delivers a long list of comfort features for an entry-level ensuite van, from a pillowtop queen mattress and leather cafe dinette to two 100Ah AGM batteries and twin solar panels, washing machine and 184 litre fridge/freezer.

Traveller Utopia

Traveller is another successful Melbourne caravan manufacturer that's been around for years but is not always front of mind for buyers bedazzled by the marketing of the big-name brands.

However, for those with the right tow vehicle and not wanting to slum it in any way on their next caravan adventure, this  23ft 6in Traveller Utopia two-berth luxury couple's van looks like pretty smart buying.

The larger-than-life luxury touring caravan delivers an apartment-on-wheels experience, including an upmarket and spacious layout featuring a roomy club lounge, huge interior and exterior storage and long list of standard features like a 224 litre fridge, 3kg front load washing machine  and inside/outside TV and audio entertainment. Not to mention rough road capability, thanks to independent coil spring suspension and checker plate protection.

The NSW dealer has dropped the price by $5750, down to an Expo special $109,240.

Franklin X Factor

Old Franklin-badged caravans are a favourite among vintage van enthusiasts and restorers, but the latest batch of Franklin caravans are firmly in the modern era, produced at the same Melbourne factories as the latest, big-selling Concept, Newlands and Viscount caravans.

The Franklin-badged Expo deal that really caught our eye was this 2018-build, 23ft Franklin X-Factor luxury couple's van, slashed by $15,000 down to an special Expo pricing of $84,990 driveaway.

For that you get a very well-equipped and stylish 'Sigature Series' equipped van, loaded with just about every comfort feature imaginable including gas heating and air-conditioning, internal/external kitchen, leather club lounge and a spacious ensuite with front-load washing machine.

Leader Gold Slide

Leader Caravans are a sub-brand of big-selling Melbourne manufacturer Supreme (Get it? Supreme Leader!) and this aptly-titled Leader Gold Slide 23ft couple's touring caravan "with the lot" is priced to sell -- down from a RRP $95,990 to its Online Expo price of $79,990 (You do the sums -- that's a lot of fuel money for the tow vehicle!)

Presenting inside more like a swank city apartment than your average Aussie caravan, the Leader 23 footer features a master bedroom with wardrobe wall, slide-out club lounge and spacious ensuite with front-load washing machine. The interior decor also stands out with some eye-catching red gloss door fascias to complement the black and brown leather upholstery.

Millard MFlow

Millard's another brand that's often associated with the vintage van movement, but under new owners the Sydney manufacturer is pumping out some very modern and sharply-priced caravans like this latest 17ft 6in, three-berth Millard MFlow touring caravan.

Resplendent in the latest gloss composite/aluminium framed exterior and with modern contemporary interior styling, it's priced to sell at an Expo special $52,240 driveaway.

For that you get a queen north-south bed, L-shaped dinette that converts to another bed, well-equipped kitchen and separate shower and toilet area with front load washing machine, along with other desirable standard features like a 150 litre fridge, roof-top air-conditioner and 190 litre water storage.
