It's an update of an earlier version and like many updates it is considerably better. For a start it is not hard-cover bound but large-spiral bound instead, making it much easier to keep open when reading because it is quite a thick publication. Additionally, there is more and updated information.
Because it's published by Hema, the guide naturally contains a full set of maps of Australia, but there is much more including detailed notes of sights and attractions - all cross-referenced back to the relevant map. Many national parks are listed as is a selected list of caravan parks that the authors obviously recommend.
In addition to the general notes, there are also authors' tips dotted throughout the book as well as some excellent photographs that encourage the potential traveller to get on the road. We liked the fact that the photographs not only had captions but map locations as well.
A disadvantage of a comprehensive book like this is that it is quite heavy, but that's a small price to pay because it is chock full of good information for anyone who is on the road around Australia.
It retails for $44.95 and is available in many good bookshops. For further details, visit www.hemamaps.com
