Hayman Reese CompactIQ

New remote brake controller provides greater control when towing heavy caravans

Hayman Reese has released a new remote mount proportional electric brake controller.

Called the CompactIQ, the new unit is a smarter ‘proportional’ version of Hayman Reese’s ‘time-activated’ Compact brake control unit.

Whereas the time-activated system applies maximum trailer braking over a pre-set time (usually one to three seconds), the proportional system determines the tow vehicle’s rate of deceleration and applies the caravan or trailer brakes to match.

Hayman Reese says the new CompactIQ has also been developed to make it both easier and less intrusive to install and provide the driver with greater control in braking situations.

With one dial rather than two, and an LED light, the controls of the Compact IQ can be mounted in a spare switch panel rather than through the main dashboard or centre console, with the ‘brains’ stored out of sight behind the dash.

The main dial lets you set the minimum braking force or ‘boost’ of the trailer and provides an over-ride function for additional braking power when required.

The CompactIQ will retail for $250 and be available through Hayman Reese stockists.
