Queensland's AOR has ripped the covers off its new, 'back to basics' entry-level off-road micro camper.
Essentially a stripped-back version of the AOR Sierra box camper released last year, the new AOR Sierra ZR retails from $29,900, compared to the better equipped Sierra's starting price of $42,500.
The new AOR Sierra ZR is also a direct competitor for the more up-spec, entry-level X1-N micro camper from fellow Queenslander Patriot Campers, which retails form $39,990.
Sharing many of its components, but conceptually quite different to the Sierra '7', the Sierra ZR is new from its chassis up, with large internal storage, space for a rooftop tent or fibreglass sleeping capsule, a pull-out external kitchen and a wide range of optional add-on tent rooms.
AOR says the new model is designed to appeal to younger campers who want to get off the ground on the next phase of their off-road adventuring.
Based on research that brand loyalty is one of AOR’s greatest sales assets, the Sierra ZR has been conceived on the belief that many people transitioning from a tent to a camper trailer will already have much of their own portable equipment, that could include a separate or rooftop tent, a cabinet fridge and perhaps their own gas cooker, induction cooktop, or Weber BBQ to bring to the new vehicle.
Designed to be dragged just about anywhere a 4WD tow vehicle will go, the Sierra ZR boasts a 40.7 degree departure angle courtesy of its extreme rear cutaway. It also measures a compact 4.3m long overall, 1.95m wide and 1.89m high (without a tent), while Tare weight is just 850kg, with an ATM of 1800kg.
Construction includes a Supagal high-tensile steel chassis with DO-35 coupling, independent trailing arm suspension, 12in electric brakes and 17in steel wheels with MT tyres, while the fibreglass body with aluminium nose cone is protected by Raptor coating and zinc plated underbody bash plates.
Standard features include the slide-out stainless steel kitchen with space for a fridge, cooker and sink, 60L water tank, 150Ah lithium battery with Finscan management system, gas system with bayonets and Anderson plug.
Most of the body is reserved for storage, with a large storage area in the nosecone, a tunnel locker and six dustproof external compartments.
A roll out awning is also standard, with a batwing-style 180 or 270 degrees awning one of many options available from AOR that also include fridges. extra140L water tank, drop-down external shower tent and its own range of Trax hard- and soft-shell roof-top tents.
Like the original Sierra, the Sierra ZR is available in three external colours: Platoon, Fighter Jet and Desert Storm.
