Happier camper adapts to owners
Trick new lightweight camper offers choice of multiple layouts in minutesMany caravan manufacturers offer a degree of customisation when it comes to designing the interior layout. But apart from converting a lounge into a bed, there’s often little flexibility once the caravan’s built.
But now a Californian company has introduced a lightweight, compact caravan that adapts to its owner's changing needs, rather than the other way around.
A bit like Lego, the modular interior design makes use of ‘cubes’ and other special fittings that snap together into place. The 375mm thick honeycomb fibreglass floor has built-in table bases and tie-downs for quick re-configurations, as well as a drain hole for hosing down the interior.
The interior space can be emptied out to carry a kayak and a motorcycle, or fitted with a combination of kitchen, dining table, seating/bedding and storage modules for week-end getaways. At least eight layouts are possible, from an empty space to a ‘mega bed’ that sleeps five.
As well as a camper, the trailer could also be used as a mobile office, sales space or mini toy hauler.
Featuring a moulded fibreglass body shell, the Happier camper makes the most of its small footprint with a huge rear hatch, wide side entry door and large panoramic windows.
The “modern retro" design delivers plenty of vintage automotive styling cues from wide ‘fenders’ to the 13in polished wheels.
Fitted standard with a basic battery and LED lighting system, the trailer only weighs around 500-700kg depending on what’s inside.
Pricing starts from US$15,950 for the base HCI Trailer, but you could easily double that once you add a few of the 50-plus options available.
The Happier camper is currently only available direct from the Los Angeles factory, but the company is “exploring opportunities” to export to overseas markets including Australia.
