A relatively new brand of Australian-built teardrop campers will be on display at this week’s Great Outdoor and 4x4 Expo at the Mornington Racecourse in Victoria.
Established in 2020 and based in Geelong, Victoria, Gumnut Campers offers two teardrop-style camper models with Tare weights starting at 500kg and an ATM of 1000kg or less – making them some of the lightest teardrops on the market and easy towing behind most vehicles.
The entry-level 3.8m long (overall) by 1.86m wide by 2.0m tall, H1 Touring Camper comes with a basic electrical and lighting set-up including a 100Ah battery and 240V charger, 12V/USB/240V sockets, Anderson connection and indoor and outdoor lights, along with other handy camping features like an electric water pump, 55L water tank, front toolbox, double foam mattress and a rear kitchen area with sink and fridge slide.
The compact H1 camper is well insulated with ‘cool room’ body panels fixed to an aluminium frame, and it rides on 14in light truck tyres with mechanical brakes.
The top-spec H1 Adventure model is similarly equipped as the Tourer but with heavy-duty leaf spring suspension, an extended drawbar, mud tyres, side scrub protection and gas and jerry holders to make it better suited to Outback adventures.
Prices range from $24,990 for the H1 Touring to $27,990 for the H1 Adventure off-road model, with a number of optional accessories available on the Gumnut Campers website including a plug-in air-conditioner, external shower, camp room, 36L fridge and lithium battery upgrade.
The Gumnut range will join a number of other fledgling Aussie RV brands exhibiting at the 2023 Mornington Expo, including Arctic Campers, Boutique Caravans and Coolaroo, Victorian-based Optimus Caravans, alongside more familiar names like Jayco, Snowy River and Bushtracker.
The 2023 Mornington Outdoor and 4x4 Expo has a no-pet-dog policy, and tickets are only available at the gate.
