A 60-year-old midwife from Murwillumbah in NSW is the lucky winner of a brand new Winnebago Escape valued at over $100,000.
The feature-packed 6.4-metre long campervan based on a Fiat Ducato 3.0-litre turbo diesel van was given away as part of a competition run by tv program Better Homes & Gardens.
The prize included on-road costs and 12 month’s CIL comprehensive insurance and was valued in total at around $110,000.
Ona Macleod and her husband, Ian, are no strangers to the camping and touring lifestyle, having travelled around Australia extensively when they first arrived from New Zealand in 1975. The couple are planning to hit the road again in the near future in the Escape when they retire and become grey nomads.
The Escape is the latest model to join the Winnebago* line-up and offers a combination of features unique to the campervan market, including an electric roll down bed which drops from the ceiling and can sleep two adults in addition to the two more traditional beds.
The Escape also squeezes into its compact layout an expanded bathroom system with flushing toilet and vanity, while the second living area can easily convert to a decent sized “garage” area in the rear of the campervan.
What’s more, the Winnebago can double as the family car or “tradies van”, where optional equipment can be installed for shelving and the tool box.
Ona Macleod said she was “having moments of disbelief” about winning the Escape. Don’t blame her!
