Pakenham off-road specialist Goldstream RV has previewed a novel wiring solution for camper trailer, pop tops and caravans that should reduce manufacturing and servicing times.
A prototype Goldstream 1860 pop top with front ensuite and rear east-west bed featuring the patented new Walltracks system was on display at the Victorian Caravan Supershow, although Goldstream’s Marketing Manager Mitch Damyon said it was still being evaluated for series production. The benefit of the system for caravans with aluminium or timber wall framing is that the wiring isn’t hidden inside the wall cavity (pictured) and can be accessed easily during and after production to add items such as additional power points.
It’s also tidier and makes servicing cheaper if an electrical fault needs to be traced.
It will also be an attractive alternative for caravan manufacturers using composite or solid walls, as the wiring can be added after the walls are in place, whereas with composite walls it has to be passed through pre-specified plastic wall channels, or run under the floor or beside the walls; limiting options for power points, windows and appliances.
The wiring with the Walltracks system sits neatly in an enclosed and weatherproof exterior channel located on the van’s outer wall, entering the caravan via holes lined with protective rubber grommets.
