Melbourne off-road specialist Goldstream RV has sold its first 'Low Rider' version of one of its largest pop-top caravans.
The latest model features a 100mm lower travel height than the standard Goldstream 1760 pop-top (down to 2250mm) for those wanting to squeeze their van under a carport or in a garage, and tow a more aerodynamic rig to reduce fuel use and handle high winds better.
Goldstream marketing manager Narelle Legg said the lower-profile 17ft 6in off-road pop-top is "particularly aimed at the segment of our market that are dictated by storage space and those that want the lowest tow height".
"This is often a concern of poptop buyers and also those that want a lower travel height for economy reasons and for access to tight outback locations/tracks," explained Legg.
"This is the first (Low Rider) we’ve done in a larger ensuite van."
The Low Rider costs the same as the standard version, with a few minor interior changes due to the lower sidewalls.
"There is a small loss of overhead storage over the kitchen and dining space which gives the van a more open feel," Legg explained.
"There is also no overhead in the ensuite, but still plenty of underbench storage. The fridge size has been reduced but there is the addition of a microwave oven over it."
Advertised at $76,885 drive-away, the 2020 Goldstream 1760 RE RD Low Rider with up-spec 'Panther' package is equipped for off-road camping, including an extended A-frame, Cruisemaster coil independent suspension and D0-35 coupling, two 9kg gas bottles, front and rear spotlights, external entertainment locker, reversing camera, outside shower, twin water tanks and a dual battery system with two roof-top solar panels.
It's well equipped inside with separate shower and toilet, kitchen with four burner cooktop, 164 litre fridge and microwave, L-shaped dinette and a north-south queen bed, and comfort features like floor-mounted air-con, TV, radio, 12V fan and filtered water.
Tare weight for the single axle, two-berth pop-top is 2019kg, with an ATM of 2619kg.
