A stalwart of the Victorian RV manufacturing industry, Goldstream RV, is set to unveil a new range of 20th anniversary models featuring a bold new look, modern finishes and new lightweight construction.
Established in 1993, Goldstream RV is renowned for its quality line-up of traditional-style caravans, pop-tops and wind-up camper trailers, with timber frames, stucco-style aluminium bodies and hand-built timber ply furniture a familiar recipe.
But that is about to change with new, cutting-edge 20th anniversary models set to be unveiled at the Melbourne Caravan and Camping Supershow in early-March.
The new range, to be sold alongside existing models, will take advantage of the latest construction techniques and lightweight materials available.
According to Goldstream RV sales manager, Mitch Damyon, they will feature smooth, composite aluminium panel walls and the latest “flat pack” furniture, precision cut with new CNC machines at Goldstream’s Pakenham factory.
Damyon said the new 2013 models will stand out from the crowd with striking new exterior colours and 20th anniversary decals; in stark contrast to the bland white exteriors of Goldstream’s current range.
Interiors will also be glammed up with extensive use of LED lighting including ‘mood’ lighting, new-design upholstery and leather options, and more modern surface finishes and colours. Furniture will be assembled from sturdier, 12-16mm lightweight plywood instead of the usual 3mm hardwood ply.
The new exterior and interior look will “change the whole appearance of the van”, with the new interiors in particular reflecting the apartment-style look made popular by the likes of New Age Caravans (pictured).
“We’re going for the aluminium composite wall on the outside and the Ikea-type style kitchen furniture on the inside,” he said.
Goldstream RV will continue to offer its more conservative range of vans and campers, and will only replace the existing range with more modern alternatives if there’s sufficient demand.
“It will give the customer the option of whether they want to do that type of look or stay with the traditional,” he said.
The new 20th anniversary models should be priced similarly to existing models, depending on equipment fitted, and Goldstream RV has no plans to increase overall production from its current rate of around eight vans a week, or 400 a year.
