A tough new pod camper that's designed, engineered and built in Australia and loaded up for off-grid 'glamping', has made its debut at the 2024 Brisbane 4x4 Show.
The Getaway Pod XTD is described as a "compact lightweight teardrop camper" although its shape is more boxy than a traditional teardrop style trailer, to give it a bit more storage as well as interior stretch-out space.
Designed to be towed behind many daily drivers, the 4925mm long x 1960mm wide x 2200mm high (overall) Getaway Pod XTD boasts a Tare of 1048kg, 140kg ball weight and 1700kg ATM.
Construction includes a high tensile steel chassis and composite FRP body panels, with Cruisemaster XT Freestyle airbag suspension, ROH 17in alloy wheels with Toyo mud tyres and twin Darche awnings also part of the off-road package.
It also comes with a pretty powerful off-grid camping set-up for a pod camper, including 1000W rooftop solar panels feeding a 520Ah lithium battery system with a Redarc 2000W inverter to run a few 240V appliances. The Getaway Pod XTD also comes equipped with a 100 litre stainless steel fresh water tank, 10 litre electric hot water unit, filtered 'water fountain' and a Laveo 'no smell' Dry Flush toilet.
Other standard features include a powered jockey wheel, Dometic Harrier Lite 2400W reverse cycle air-conditioner, 42in HD Smart TV, twin Sirocco fans, interior and exterior LED lighting, and windows with both blinds and insect mesh.
The Getaway camper boasts a 950mm wide entry door on both sides for easy access to the king size bed which can sleep up to three people, while the stylish rear kitchen with lift-up door that doubles as overhead cover gets a large prep bench, deep sink with mixer tap and filtered water, induction twin plate cooker, 130L fridge and 45L freezer, plus some electrical sockets and cupboards.
As well as storage around the bed and the rear kitchen area, there's an extra large external storage locker located on the offside wall for carrying larger camping items.
The XTD model is also scheduled to appear at the Sydney 4x4 show in June and the Melbourne 4x4 Show in August. Pricing starts at $99,000, with instructions on how to order one on the Getaway Pod XTD website.
