Geotrek wins Best New RV award
Melbourne-built family camper gets top gong in 2021 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards
The very first model from a Melbourne boutique camper trailer manufacturer, has won a major prize in the 2021 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards.
The Geotrek Trek-XP picks up the Best New RV trophy in the inaugural Innovation Awards, which are designed to recognize and reward advancements in the areas of technology, design, quality and safety throughout the Australian RV industry.
“The Geotrek family camper trailer is a breath of fresh air in a market dominated by big, heavy, and often overloaded caravans and camper trailers,” said caravancampingsales’ editor and Innovation Awards judge Chris Fincham.
“It brings new ideas and innovations to the compact off-road camper segment market where bolt-on rooftop tents and outside showers are the norm when it comes to providing extra comforts for family members.
“Instead of jamming in every appliance under the sun, the Geotrek's designers have taken a minimalist approach, focusing on important remote area travel considerations like above-average water and fuel storage and extensive body protection and clearance for tackling rough tracks,” he said.
“The Geotrek also stands out from other premium lightweight pod campers with its clever, user-friendly set-up that delivers off-the-ground showering and sleeping for a family of four within seconds of arriving at camp.”
Geotrek founder Stephen Dannock said the Award was a recognition of all the hard work put in over the past decade in developing and designing his idea of the perfect compact family camper.
“I had a list of five criteria (for my ideal family off-road camper), but couldn’t find anything on the market that ticked all the boxes so I decided to design and build the Geotrek,” he said.
“It’s been 10 years of hard slog to get to this point, and a lot of money invested, so it’s great to receive recognition from the industry experts that we’re on the right track with the Geotrek.
“Special thanks to my business partner Rob Sloan and all of our local Australian suppliers in particular Mitcham Laser and Letloc Canvas for their continued support, not to mention our very patient families and, of course, Chris Fincham and the team at caravancampingsales.
"I'd also like to personally thank some good friends of mine, David Jones and Merrill MacKay, who gave up their garage to me when I was developing the prototype and never asked for anything in return."
“While still in the early stages of the business, we have big plans for 2022 including introducing new models and ramping up production at a new, larger production facility," Dannock continued.
“We just hope we can meet any increased demand from buyers in a timely manner as our production capacity remains quite limited at the moment.”
Runner-up in the Best New RV category was the slick Regent Cruiser full composite touring caravan, with the AOR Sinergi full-height off-road caravan in third place, according to judges’ votes.
“The Regent Cruiser sets a new standard of finish and style for an Australian-designed, Chinese-built caravan and ensures that the traditional Australian brands remain relevant and up to date,” Innovation Awards judge Michael Browning commented.
Other finalists in the Best New RV category included the million dollar STG Dreamliner motorhome, the six tonne-rated Kedron TopEnder triple-axle caravan and the lightweight Quick Camper slide-on tray camper.
Other category winners in the 2021 caravancampingsales Innovation Awards include the Boss RT1 rooftop tent (Best New Product/Accessory), Safiery 48V (Best New Technology), and AL-KO Tow Assist (Best New Safety Feature).
