Jayco chairman Gerry Ryan has come to the rescue of a sick pensioner who had the old caravan he was living in stolen while recovering in hospital.
According to a news report on Channel 7 (see below), Ryan decided to act after hearing the plight of 78 year-old John Parker.
As well as being blind in one eye and suffering from lung disease, Parker’s leg was amputated after a serious fall left him in hospital for several months.
CCTV footage released by police show thieves towing away Parker’s 1979 Viscount caravan from a truck stop in Melbourne’s west. Parker had reportedly lived there for over a year.
“I can’t believe this, you haven’t got a second-hand one there, have you?” a disbelieving Parker said after being given a brand-new, tandem axle Jayco Starcraft caravan.
With no family support, Parker plans to now live in the caravan on a friend’s country property.
“To do this for somebody they don’t even know, you’ve got a bloody big heart,” he said.
The free caravan is the latest act of generosity from Ryan, who has a long history of
“To see that smile on his face and to give him some respect back, and somewhere to live and some security, we’re very pleased to be able to help,” Ryan said.
The generous act also got the thumbs up from hundreds of people on Jayco’s Facebook page, with one commenting: “That brought me to tears, thanks Jayco! We are on our 2nd Jayco, and going to buy a 3rd.”
