One of Australia’s biggest caravan manufacturers, took the wraps off a new, entry-level model at the recent Victorian Caravan Supershow.
The new Gecko from New Age Caravans comes with a range of couple and family-friendly layouts, many with ensuites as well as a pop-top roof and ‘extender’ bed, and body lengths ranging from a compact 11ft to more spacious 19ft.
“It’s an entry level model but it still offers quite a luxury van from an entry (price) point,” said New Age Caravans marketing manager Mende Aleksoski.
“We’re particularly targeting families who are entering the market for the first time,” he said.
“For example, there’s a 19ft model with four cupboards that can be taken out, so if you have a larger family you can have six bunks in there instead.”
“It’s also a lightweight option so you don’t have to upgrade your tow vehicle.”
The single axle, 11ft fixed-roof, rear door Gecko van on display at Melbourne may have been compact but wasn’t light on features, squeezing in a front slide-out double bed, kitchenette and dinette along with many of the features you expect in larger vans including a separate toilet and shower, microwave and roof-top air-con.
Priced from $39,990, the 11ft Gecko ensuite model (pictured) had a Tare weight of 1400kg, 1700kg ATM and 150kg ball weight.
Also on display was a four-berth, 16ft Gecko bunk van that optioned with a larger 164 litre fridge was priced from $49,990. It had a 1790kg Tare, 2090kg ATM and 120kg ball weight.
While a top-spec 19ft Gecko bunk van with 2080kg Tare, 2480kg ATM and 120kg ball weight, was priced from $56,990.
Aleksoski said the 16ft Gecko van in particular “was a really big hit at the show”.
“It got a lot of attention at the show because of what it offers, including bunks and a expanding bed,” he said.
The first Gecko vans rolled off the production line just days before the Supershow, and full details are expected to be posted on the New Age website in coming days.
The entry-level Gecko is the 10th model in New Age Caravans’ growing range of touring and rough-road vans and pop-tops.
Just seven years old, New Age is believed to be one of the top-three caravan manufacturers in Australia, building more than 1000 caravans in 2015.
