Game on for caravan industry
Caravan-themed Monopoly board game to be released in late-2016Campers and caravanners will have the chance to ‘buy’ some of Australia’s best caravan parks – or even a group of them – when a special, caravan park themed version of one of the world’s most popular board games goes on sale later this year.
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia (CIAA) has teamed up with the makers of Monopoly to develop Australia’s and possibly the world’s first caravanning and camping themed Monopoly board game.
The peak national body said the initiative is a great branding opportunity for the industry given Monopoly is the world’s biggest selling board game of all time, played by an estimated one billion people in over 111 countries.
“We can’t wait to see families gathered around this special Monopoly board on their upcoming caravanning and camping holidays,” the CIAA said on its website.
The special-edition board game will include unique playing pieces, ‘Chance’ and ‘Community’ card messages specific to the caravan industry, and even houses and hotels will be renamed ‘tents’ and ‘cabins’.
To help pay for the game, an auction was held where CIAA member caravan parks were given the chance to bid for a place on the board.
Some of the winning bidders included Brisbane Holiday Village, Park Lane Holiday Parks (pictured), RACV Cobram Resort and Top Holiday Parks of Australia.
A limited number of caravan park-themed Monopoly boards are expected to be available from November.
