Fans of old-school teardrop-style campers now have another option to consider, with Cool Beans Campers launching its new range of on- and off-road trailers at this week’s Perth Caravan & Camping Show in Western Australia.
Built in Fremantle, Western Australia by a two-man team with extensive experience in the trades and construction industries, the Cool Beans campers feature all the typical teardrop features, including cosy queen bed interior, rear lift-up kitchen and egg-shaped profile with exposed wheels and guards.
However, to set them apart from rivals the Cool Beans trailers feature plenty of hand-crafted bespoke touches including D-shaped entry doors with glass porthole windows, and a polished aluminium finish for the one-piece roof section and wheel spats.
Customers can also personalize their campers with the option of any exterior colour for the side walls and steel wheels.
The Cool Beans campers also come with a 12V/240V power system, including AGM battery and solar and Anderson plug connections contained within a drawbar-mounted aluminium box, that can be monitored remotely via a smart phone app.
As well as a queen mattress, the interior includes a rear backrest, two reading lamps, USB/12V charging ports, roof hatch and a number of cupboards and drawers.
The rear kitchen includes a 60 litre, slide-out portable fridge, stainless sink with taps connected to a 48 litre water tank, two-burner cooktop running off a 4kg gas bottle, LED lighting, charging points, benchtop and storage drawers.
The campers are built with a locally-built steel chassis and feature aluminium/plywood construction for the body. They also come equipped with a ball coupling, jockey wheel, spare tyre, leaf spring suspension and electric brakes.
The Cool Beans campers measure 4500m long overall, 1500m wide and 1720mm tall, with a base Tare of 900kg and up to 400kg payload depending on specification.
Available factory direct, the Cool Beans campers are priced at $32,000 drive-away for the Custom Retro on-road model. There’s also an Off-Road version, available for $35,000 drive-away, which adds a heavy-duty chassis and off-road leaf spring suspension, side stone guards/running boards and roof racks.
Cool Beans Campers' Josh McLernon, who together with business partner Wade Ellis spent two years developing the new campers, said they were designed to appeal to both young and old campers alike.
“A lot of people don’t have the places to store their caravans any more, and they don’t want to be towing these big vans all around the place, and towing is a breeze (with the Cool Beans),” he said.
The new Cool Beans model isn’t the only teardrop camper brand exhibiting at the Perth show, with the Turkish-built Caretta campers also on display at the annual event.
