Quick out of the blocks, Sydney's Frontline displayed Australia’s first motorhome based on the new 6th Generation Toyota Hiace at this year’s Victoria’s Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow.
The new Frontline takes full advantage of the new long wheelbase H30 Hiace’s more useable floorplan, with its new up-front engine location that has helped the Toyota achieve its new ANCAP 5-Star safety rating and now features a true walk-through cabin for greater comfort and security.
The Hiace camper's traditional interior layout sees a compact kitchen with a two-burner gas cooktop and stainless steel sink module placed behind the driver’s seat with an 80-litre gas/electric fridge below.
Good standing room is achieved inside thanks to the Hiace’s large pop-top roof, while its rear compartment is dominated by a large day lounge that converts to a roomy queen bed with some minor cushion re-arrangement.
Sliding windows with fly-screens, a 100AH auxiliary battery with automatic charging, 50 litres of fresh water capacity, a standard three-metre wide Dometic wind-out awning and an external shower, are among other standard features.
Prices of the Frontline Hiace campervan start at $78,000, with buyers having the choice between Toyota’s 130kW/450Nm 2.8-litre turbo-diesel, or 207kW/360Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, as well as manual or automatic transmissions.
A rooftop solar panel, a hot water system that also feeds the shower, a separate grey water tank, an internal roof bed, a separate flyscreen room that attaches to the awning, a rear tailgate flyscreen and a third battery, are amongst the options to turn the new Frontline Hiace into a true, all-season motorhome.
