Four-berth rental first for Apollo
RV rental giant introduces first family-friendly 4WD camper to the Aussie market
Apollo Motorhome Holidays has expanded its Australian RV rental line-up, with a new, ute-based four-seater, offroad camper able to sleep up to four people.
The Queensland-based company says the four-berth 4WD is a first for the Aussie RV market, joining the existing two-seater, two-berth 4WD camper in the company’s off-road rental range.
The Outback Camper is based on a Mitsubishi Triton dual-cab ute, featuring a 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine, automatic transmission, 75 litre fuel tank and dual batteries.
The camper body boasts two double beds (2.0m x 1.53m and 1.9m x 1.4m), one of which doubles as a dinette during the day. Interior height with the pop-top up is 1.95m.
Other features include an awning, external two burner gas stove, internal sink (cold water only), 80 litre fridge/freezer, 100 litre water tank, two 1.25kg gas bottles and an external shower. Customers also get a swag of camping, bedding and safety equipment included as part of the rental fee.
Apollo Motorhome Holidays CEO Luke Trouchet said the Outback Camper fills a giant gap in the family-focused, off-road market.
"Our customers have been specifically asking for a four-seater off-road campervan to suit families and because we manufacture our own fleet, there was nothing to stop us designing and delivering the first family 4WD camper," he said.
The 4WD Outback Camper is available for hire nationally, except Hobart, and costs from $133 a day. It will also be available for sale from Apollo Motorhome’s sister company, Talvor Motorhomes, in the coming months.
Apollo has also recently added three new caravans to its rental fleet, including a four-berth Cruiser van, six-berth Explorer pop-up and an entry-level, four-berth Ranger pop-up.
The deluxe Cruiser and Explorer models come with plenty of mod cons including TV/DVD player, iPod docking station, air con, toilet and shower and kitchen, while the compact Ranger features "back to basic essentials for no-fuss campervanning".
Luke Trouchet said Apollo’s expansion into caravans is a win-win situation for both the company and its loyal base of customers.
"It gives our customers greater flexibility with their daily travel plans," he said. "All they have to do is unhook the caravan and they’re away. They can explore the great outdoors in their car and return home to their caravan."
The caravans cost from $129 a day and are available for pick up and drop off at a number of Apollo outlets along the east coast of Australia.
The new caravans will also be available for sale through Talvor Motorhomes, starting with the 5.5m long 550A model priced from $59,990. A 5.5m long 550B (alternative layout) and 6.5m long 650A model will also go on sale in the near future.
"The 550A will have an electric drop-down bed, an Australian first, we believe," said Talvor marketing manager John Melenewycz.
