Imagine buying a caravan from the same dealer that sells you the tow vehicle!
That’s a scenario that could possibly become reality in the near future after Ford in America recently announced its own line of RVs.
The automotive giant is offering a range of licensed caravans, toy haulers and slide-out ute campers, built by Indiana-based RV manufacturer Livin Lite.
Livin Lite is part of Thor Industries, one of America’s biggest RV manufacturers and exporter of Airstream as well as other model caravans to Australia including those under the Cell Caravans banner.
While Ford had a dedicated RV division in the 1970s with a team of engineers and marketing professionals, it says it’s the first original equipment manufacturer to offer an extended range of licensed RVs, under the new Ford RV brand.
Initially, the range will consist of aluminium caravans (or travel trailers as the Americans call them) and toy haulers in 22 and 24ft lengths, as well as slide-on campers for the latest Ford F-150 pick-up. Longer fifth-wheel caravans and shorter pop-up campers, are also planned.
“Licensing our name and design language to Livin Lite was an easy decision,” said Ford Licensing manager, Mark Bentley.
“Their use of advanced materials and innovation mindset makes them an excellent fit with the Ford brand. We are confident customers will be impressed with the unique, bold designs and comfortable features offered in the Ford RV line.”
The Ford-branded RVs were designed collaboratively by Livin Lite and Ford Design over a period of 15 months, with the new models currently being rolled out to Livin Lite dealers across America.
