Ford F-350 tough truck camper breaks cover

Tricked-up 4x4 expedition vehicle targets off-road glamping adventurers

If you like your motorised RVs to look as tough on the outside as they are at withstanding punishing off-road travel, then the latest EC Terranova 4x4 expedition vehicle from US-based EarthCruiser should appeal.

Based on a thumping Ford F-350 pick-up chassis, although there are plans to offer Chevrolet and Dodge versions in 2022, the new EarthCruiser EC Terranova truck camper "is the culmination of years of expedition experience and field testing across the globe," EarthCruiser General Manager Chad Knight said.

"We used this hard earned knowledge and solicited customer feedback to create an incredibly capable, well-designed over-cab expedition vehicle on a domestic one-ton chassis.."

Highlights include "racing yacht" like construction utilising fibreglass and marine grade materials, with the camper chassis mounted to the vehicle chassis using EarthCruiser's proprietary mount system "to ensure stability and durability".

The trick automatic pop-top roof is the same as that used on EarthCruiser's pricier EarthCruiser EXP model, with no locks or latches required to raise or lower the roof and delivering close to 2.0m high interior headroom when camping.

The cab-over 'loft' bed area also delivers a 360 degree view thanks to eight screened windows, with the 'horseshoe shape' dinette seating up to four adults and one child, and the kitchenette fitted with a sink, cooktop and fridge.

The 'loft' area also features a queen-sized mattress, power stations, ambient reading lights and storage cubbies, with built-in steps that double as drawers to help climb up into bed.

The dinette also converts to another single bed, and there's additional storage under the raised floor as well as access to all the plumbing and electricals. A shower and toilet are also part of the package.

“Every EarthCruiser product is designed, developed and hand built, by a team of enthusiasts that bring years of true overlanding experience to every inch of product construction," EarthCruiser founder Lance Gillies said.

"Experiences in Mongolia, through the jungles of Borneo, and across the Australian outback influence every panel, latch, door location, storage compartment, and system redundancy."

Pricing for the left-hand drive EC Terranova Expedition Vehicles starts at US$289,000 (AUD$372,000).
