Dometic and Winnebago have teamed up again for the high-profile Follow the Sun road trip promotion. Now in its fifth year, the annual marketing extravaganza has gone up a notch, extending from a three month road trip to a 12 month ‘relay’.
Also supported by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, this year’s Follow the Sun event kicked off at the Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow in Brisbane on June 9, with the supplied Winnebago Byron motorhome planning to return to the same venue around the same time next year after completing nine travel 'legs' that take in most major cities and tourist destinations in Australia.

“Our Byron motorhome can drive and sleep up to six people, so a wide range of travelers are encouraged to apply to experience the luxury and comfort of motorhoming,” Winnebago Australia CEO Luke Trouchet said.
Cookbook author and motivational speaker Annette Sym is the first of a number of ‘ambassadors’ that will also take part in the trip, undertaking the first leg of the relay from Brisbane to Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.

Sym said she’s looking forward to driving around the country and showing people ideas for eating healthy on the road.
“My husband Bill and I have been married for 45 years and early in our marriage we actually had a VW Campervan and travelled Europe for three years, so this is a bit like going back to the good old days but doing it in a bit more in style,” she said.
“We are in that age category where we are looking at slowing down with work in the next couple of years and one of our goals is to travel Australia, so I think it’ll be great for us to have this time together on the road.”
