Fold down bed first for German caravan
We've all heard of pop-tops, slide-outs and other space-saving caravan features, but now German RV brand Bürstner has launched the first caravan to feature a fold down bed.Fitted to the company’s Averso Plus range the retractable double sleeping compartment lowers from the ceiling to overhang above the lounge area, avoiding messy bed conversions. An electronically assisted version is also available.
The innovation has led some commentators including UK website CaravanTimes to credit Bürstner with 'reinventing' caravan interior design.
According to CaravanTimes, the fold down bed is not the only original feature in the Averso Plus series.
“There's also a retractable TV screen that can swivel on a 360 degree axis. When it's positioned at the right angle, it can be watched from outside the 'van through the window. Or as the manufacturers put it: ‘for perfect viewing pleasure both inside and out’.”
The Averso range is available in three layouts, including the compact two berth 410TS, six berth 440TK and family-friendly seven berth 510TK.
And for those tired of ubiquitous white exteriors, the Averso Plus can be ordered in a refreshing mint green paintwork with leaf detailing (white or silver is also available for the less adventurous).
Bürstner dates back to 1958 when it produced its first caravan and along with Geist is now part of the Hymer group, Europe’s largest manufacturer of caravans and motorhomes. Bürstner vans were marketed in Australia a few years ago but are not currently available Down Under.
