Buyers are being warned to do their homework to avoid a big repair bill down the track after unknowingly purchasing a used caravan damaged in recent floods.
Transport and Mains Road Queensland said there may be "more than meets the eye" to a number of used caravans hitting the market after recent floods.
"Recent flooding in Queensland and New South Wales has caused damage to a significant number of vehicles, including caravans and camper trailers," the state authority said.
A thorough inspection should be done before purchasing a vehicle to "avoid any surprises down the track".
"Before you buy a second-hand vehicle, you should always conduct a thorough inspection and seek professional advice prior to making a purchase.
"While many vehicles will be entered into the written-off vehicle register (WOVR) and will not be able to be re-registered for use on our roads, some vehicles will not be considered a total loss and therefore won't be entered into the WOVR. These vehicles could be sold by auction or private sale."
