An April Fool's joke about new floating pontoon caravan sites at a NSW riverside caravan park has gone viral, with the people behind the online prank now considering introducing a real-life version...

"We’re super excited to introduce our new pontoon caravan sites, right on the Edward River," a partnership of Denilquin Riverside Caravan Park and Edward River Caravan Hire said on April 1.
"This is caravanning at a whole new level. Just imagine being able to throw in a fishing line from your caravan; go for a swim from your own balcony; fall asleep to the gentle rhythm of the river..."
"Don’t have your own van? No problem, the team at Edward River Caravan and Camper Hire can deliver and set one up for you..."
"Pontoon sites have been hugely popular in the UK and USA for a while now, so we’re thrilled to be able to introduce them to Australia," continued the social media post.
Deniliquin Riverside park owner Karen Azzopardi told the Shepparton News that the April Fool's prank started out as a "joke over drinks during the floods".
“Donna from Edward River Caravan Hire and I were talking about how if our cabin sites were on pontoons we wouldn’t have experienced the devastation that we did,” she said.
“It was a situation that if we didn’t laugh, we’d cry, so we tried to find humour everywhere while we watched our park progressively go under water.
“Like other businesses, we’re still recovering, but the interest in our post and in Deni has given us a morale boost and generated some new concept ideas that could attract a whole new audience.”
The 'doctored' photo was created by superimposing an image of a rental van onto an existing picture of a houseboat on the Edward River.
