Many Aussie adventure seekers opt for a heavy-duty 4x4 and big off-grid caravan, which is great when you finally arrive at your remote campsite, but can be more than a handful to drag along the tracks on the journey in.

Queensland’s SLRV is renowned for building some of the world’s finest off-road motorhomes -- $2 million eight berth, eight wheel drive MAN expedition vehicle anyone?

This tough-truck motorhome was built in Perth in 2023 by RV newcomer Auriga Expedition Trucks.

Based on IVECO’s Eurocargo ML150 4x4 platform, it's fitted with all the amenities to provide comfort and convenience away from civilisation, including an interior kitchen and shower with 15-litre hot water system, ceramic Thetford toilet with cartridge, reverse-cycle air conditioning, diesel heater and more.

The Auriga off-road motorhome also comes with 400-litre freshwater tanks and 150 litres of grey capacity. Power for the accommodation comes from a combination of lithium batteries and solar panels and the truck sleeps up to four adults (one queen size bed and one drop-down double bed).

The aptly named 'White Rhino' was built by Queensland manufacturer EVA Expedition Vehicles in 2019, and is based on Iveco's trusty Daily 4x4 off-road platform.

Like many off-truck truck campers, there is a long list of 4x4 mods and add-ons including twin remote-controlled winches, a 100L sub fuel tank, bullbar and upgraded front and rear suspension with remote reservoir shocks.

There's also a 300Ah lithium battery system with Victron electricals, and its licenced to carry four people, with sleeping for two on a double bed. The electric pop-top camper module also incorporates a kitchenette with sink and induction cooktop and cafe style seating. A cassette toilet and outside shower is also part of an extensive package.

Many compact truck-based motorhomes are strictly two-berth, so if you want to drag the family to far-flung reaches this unique pop-top slide-on camper might be a good option.
