Fishing Tip: Using a Lip Grip

Fishing advice provided by iFish TV

There are many names for lip grip devices as seen in the mouth of this beautiful Chinaman fish from Western Australia. Call them what you will, they all serve several very handy purposes.

Firstly, you can do away with the net or gaff and use the device to land the fish. Now that the fish is "gripped", it's much easier to control while the fish is photographed, measured etc.

Then with the lift of a finger the jaws open and the fish can swim away unharmed.

Just remember to always support the belly (weight) of the fish with your free hand as hanging their full body weight from the jaw is not conducive to healthy release.

Make sure you tune into iFish TV this weekend. Go to iFishTV.com.au  for episode times in your state or territory.
