Americans have been using 'stick baits' for years, but I must admit, we have been very slow to catch on in Australia.
Guess what? The secret is out.
The term stick bait refers to a lure that can swim on both the surface and sub surface. It doesn't have a bib like most traditional hard bodied lures nor a cup face like a popper. It's an in between lure that the angler must impart the action on.
They work well as surface lures for a host of species including giant trevally, mackerel, bass, bream and monster tailor (pictured). But if you drop the rod tip, slow the retrieve and make the lure dart from side to side you will encounter a whole new host of species.
They are one of my favourite lures as they are just so versatile and will catch almost any fish in a large range of scenarios. Make sure you add a couple to your collection before your next outing.
