Fishing Tip: Know when to hold 'em

Fishing advice provided by iFish TV

There are many species of pelagic type fish that we target in Australia that react very well to an old but brilliant trick.

When fishing with two or more anglers and you have a hook up, try everything you can to hook another fish before you pull the first from the water. Some 'polite' anglers wind in to give their mate the best possible chance of landing their fish, but this is possibly the worst thing they can do.

If they cast carefully and hook up before the first fish leaves the water, there's a much greater chance that the school of fish will stay in contact with the boat. This can be repeated time and time again with each angler ensuring a second fish is hooked before the first leaves the water.

This method works extremely well on Australian salmon and kingfish, but also on a host of other species. So next time you or your mate hooks up, be a team player and cast your line in search of another fish to help hold the school for as long as you can.
